My proudest day alive was the night I made Dave crack up. He will occasionally pop into comedy clubs unannounced. He will generally just mosey on in and try to be inconspicuous. I was at a local Funny Bone watching amateur night. My friend and I were sitting at a small 2-person table but the place was packed. I was busy watching the guy on stage, who was pretty funny. Out my peripheral vision I noticed a guy drag a chair up to our table and I barely heard him say "Do you ladies mind if I sit with y'all?" I kinda looked over but didn't make eye contact and just said "No, that's cool." Then I thought to myself "Man, that voice sounds familiar." I looked over and there was *THE DAVE* bigger than shit. I said "Holy shit, you're Dave Chappelle" whilst simultaneously falling off my chair. Literally. The look he gave me was exactly like at the @4:00 Mark. 😂 Then he put his finger to his lips in a "shhhh" signal, reached down and helped me back up to my chair. He was laughing so hard at my reaction that he had tears in his eyes. I was so mind-blown that I couldn't even pay attention to the comedian on stage. Dave ended up buying us a couple drinks and allowed us to take a picture and signed a cocktail napkin for me. Only a couple people managed to notice he was even there...once I calmed my goofy ass down. 🤦🏻‍♀️ We were seated towards the back corner and nobody else noticed him until intermission when the lights came up. Awesome fucking guy!

I know I'm late to the party, but I'm watching this s*** and I'm seeing some type of political and/or Geopolitical spectrum flag to the left or right, but they're editing alive. Recorded audio like what algorithm are they using to cut out words and cut out his f****** jokes? Come on now.

so as much as it doesnt feel like it , at least to a 34 year old whos still maintained a youthful imagination, im watching this segment again , over 18 years after it first aired, and as a lifelong student of comedy, i cant help but react in a negative way...... towards the audience. The type of crowd that expects 100% pie-in-the-face comedy , in the prescence of in my opinion 2 of the greatest minds in the history of entertainment, but just Daves poetic , expressive storytelling ability and concise answers only deliver a collective chuckle each time he takes a pause, it doesnt make me quite sick, but annoyed as hell. Compared to todays audience which feels more divided (which anyone whose ever known they are funny wants) but also gives laughs at the wrong time thinking the joke will be five seconds long with a quick payoff, ive never been sure who to trust OTHER THAN REAL COMEDIANS OR MYSELF, as to what is actually funny, because comedy really is pain. what im saying is i wish people could actually appreciate something dope where and when it actually happens rather than having it become popular and then they all just agree, sure, this is good now we guess. Keep your eyes and ears open. learn. i promise, the shits worth it.

So for the young people, who don't know, he started out telling/copying Eddie Murphy jokes ( 16:08 ) e.g " _Jesse Jackson running for President_ and "whatever makes people laugh, say that shxt" after being inspired to be a comedian by the 80s legend Bill Cosby ( 10:43 ). Since he was nowhere near as good as them (Bill Cosby, Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor and later Bernie Mac & Martin Lawrence) he just kept going until his moment arrived.
